Animal Kingdom and Shackleford
Much of the 143rd Belmont Stake’s story revolves around Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom and Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford and how the two will face off in the final leg of the Triple Crown.
Animal Kindom was broken by Randy Bradshaw in Ocala.
“I think we have a huge chance to win,” Bradshaw said, “but he can’t be coming back from 18 lengths like he did before in the Preakness.
“The horse is doing extremely well at Belmont (Park). And I think the distance shouldn’t be a question for him. And he’s put on weight which is a good sign.”
But after two grueling Triple Crown races in the past five weeks, Bradshaw warns that no one knows how fit the horses really are coming into Saturday’s race.
