Setting the track afire — on a Harley
Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the racetrack used to go together like peanut butter and brussel sprouts.
But for 2011, the Parts Canada Superbike Series (CSBK) has a new class and only those riding Harley-Davidson XR1200s need apply.
When the XR1200 was introduced a couple of years ago, it immediately jumped onto my top 10 list of “Bikes I'd Spend My Own Money On.”
The XR is raw and visceral — it combines the styling of a Harley flat tracker with a chassis that's made for those who like to go around corners. The good looks are complemented by the sweet handling chassis and willing, if not overly strong, motor.
XRs entered in the CSBK series must be equipped with the official Vance & Hines Race Kit, which includes a Fuelpak fuel management system, race bodywork including number plates, single seat tail section, an oil containment belly pan, and a Vance & Hines exhaust system.

Engine bored to .40 over, S&S Shorty carb, drag pipes, 32″ drag handlebars, classic white rubber handgrips. New front tire, new battery, new clutch ramp assembly, new clutch cable. Comes with the factory service manual & battery cover.
Previous owner removed the rear shocks and bolted on steel bars, lowering the bike a few inches, hardtailing the bike. I rode it as is, but you could replace the shocks or either bolt or weld on a hardtail.
Needs rear tire, new seat (I recommend a solo seat kit), and assembly of the front master cylinder in order to use the front disk brakes. Might want to check the rear drum brake pads as well.
It’s loud, ugly and fast. GA title in hand.
